Physical and Sensory Assistance

Any graduate attending commencement and who requires special assistance or needs a sign language interpreter should notify the Office of the Registrar via the Graduation Application or call 478-471-2900 as soon as possible.

The Macon Centreplex/Coliseum is a handicapped-accessible facility.

Tickets

Graduates and guests are not required to have tickets to attend the Commencement Ceremony.

Parking

In order to assure that there is sufficient parking for all participants, car-pooling is strongly encouraged. Graduates and guests may park in the Macon Centreplex/Coliseum parking lot free of charge.

Photographs

  • GradImages is the world’s largest commencement photography company, capturing the accomplishments of over 1.7 million graduates each year. Graduates are not obligated to purchase photographs from GradImages. However, GradImages will provide an online proof to each graduate approximately one week after the ceremony. Graduates who wish to view the online proof should submit his/her preferred e-mail address via the MGSC GradImages web site. More information will be posted here at a later date.

  • Families are welcome to take additional photographs of their graduates after the ceremony; however, no one will be permitted on the Arena floor to take pictures during the ceremony.

Diplomas

Graduates will receive a diploma cover at the Graduation Convocation. Diplomas will be mailed to the graduate’s address on file in the Banner Student Information System. Graduates should verify the accuracy of addresses on file in Banner. Change of address forms are available in the Office of the Registrar and online at http://www.mga.edu/registrar/address.aspx.

Cap & Gowns

Graduates submitting the completed Graduation Application by the April 1 deadline, and indicating a desire to participate in the Graduation Convocation, will be provided caps and gowns. The cost of the cap and gown was included in the Graduation Application fee.

Graduates who did not indicate a desire to participate in the Commencement Ceremony upon initial submission of the Graduation Application, but who would like to participate now, must contact the Office of the Registrar no later than April 1, 2014. Caps and gowns will only be ordered for those graduates who indicate that they will attend the ceremony.

Caps and gowns may be picked up by the graduate from the Bookstore on his/her campus of attendance. Dates and times of distribution will be posted on this page at a later date.

The cap should be placed on the head so that the mortarboard is level, and the tassel hangs on the right side. The long point of the crown should be in back and the front point should be placed well down on the forehead.

Under no circumstances may graduates embellish the cap or gown.

Cap & gowns are available for pick-up in the bookstore (Macon and Cochran) starting April 30 until noon on May 14th.

Additional Regalia

When participating in the Commencement Ceremony, graduates may wear only the regalia representing MGSC distinctions and/or Recognized Student Organizations.

Graduates who have questions about regalia (honor stoles/cords, etc.) representing Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) should speak with the appropriate RSO advisor. The Office of the Registrar does not provide these items.

Attire

Proper professional attire is required of all graduates. Dark clothing and shoes are preferable. The Arena floor is concrete. Comfortable shoes are encouraged.

Processional

Graduates of the 10:00 a.m. ceremony should arrive in the Monument Room lobby no later than 8:30 a.m. The processional will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.

Graduates of the 3:00 p.m. ceremony should arrive in the Monument Room lobby no later than 1:30 p.m. The processional will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m.

Recessional

The Commencement Ceremony is not complete until the faculty, honored guests and graduates have recessed are no longer on the Arena floor. As a show of respect, guests are asked to remain standing at their seats until the recessional has ended.

Printed Commencement Program

The names of all graduates who submitted a completed Graduation Application by the April 1 deadline will be printed Commencement program. A link to the printed program will be posted on this page in May.

Additional Viewing Opportunities

Live streaming of the Commencement Ceremony will be available for viewing over the Internet from any location in the world. This is an excellent viewing option for family and friends of graduates who are unable to attend Commencement. The link to the broadcast is www.mga.edu/live/.

Copies (DVD) of the 2014 Middle Georgia State College Commencement Ceremony will be available for purchase in MGSC Bookstores. Additional information will be posted on this page in May.
