Graduate Admissions
A Graduate Admissions Committee composed of select faculty who teach in the Graduate Business Programs will review and admit students for each semester. Primary admissions criteria include the following:
- Previous education
- Work experience
- Statement of career goals
- Grade point average (GPA)
- In some cases, Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores may be requested
Each of the above criteria is discussed below:
PREVIOUS EDUCATION
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution is required for admission to the MSM and MBPL programs. The undergraduate degree is not required to be in a business discipline.
Interested applicants who do not meet the preferred minimum GPA may take a standardized test such as the GRE or GMAT to further strengthen their application. Additionally, significant weight is placed on the resume when making a decision about an applicant with a lower than preferred GPA to account for experience beyond the classroom.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Application material will include a resume with detailed descriptions of past work experience. Factors such as length of service, level of responsibility, number of individuals supervised, etc. will be factored into the admissions decision.
STATEMENT OF CAREER GOALS
Applicants will be asked to submit a statement of their career goals citing how a graduate degree would assist them in achieving those goals.
GRADUATE ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE (GAC)
The GAC will be appointed each year by the Dean of the School of Business in consultation with the Graduate Program Coordinators. The GAC will review applications and make acceptance decisions each semester. The GAC may request additional information from applicants and/or request an interview with the applicant as part of their decision process. Acceptance is not necessarily guaranteed for applicants who meet the above criteria.
