Resources for Students & Alumni

Welcome to the Center for Career & Leadership Development!  We believe that career and leadership development are important parts of your college experience.  After all, you chose to attend college so that you can prepare for your future. We can help you learn about career options; prepare for internship, job, and graduate school searches and applications; offer professional development coaching; and connect you with a variety of employers wishing to hire MGA students and graduates. At MGA, our Center is unique because we also offer the Student Leadership Programs.  In addition to Knights LEAD for freshmen and Emerging Leaders for sophomores, we plan and host a FREE Student Leadership Conference to students each spring for all students.

New this Fall - Schedule Appointments through Your Handshake Account!

Starting August 3, students and alumni can schedule their appointments via Handshake. Follow the steps below to schedule online.  We can also schedule one for you if you call or drop by the Centers in Macon or Cochran.  Students who want to meet with someone in person in Dublin should contact Ashleigh Jennings.  For virtual appointments, Dublin students can also schedule via Handshake.

  1. Activate your Handshake account at mga.joinhandshake.com with your MGA email address (current students).  If you are an alumnus, you may have an MGA account you can claim with your MGA email. If so, we can help you update your account with your personal email address.
  2. Once logged into Handshake, go to “Career Center” and select “Appointments.”
  3. Choose your “Category” (Cochran/Eastman, Macon/Warner Robins, Dublin, Online/MGA Direct, Graduate Student, or Alumni).
    1. At this, Dublin students will have virtual options for Handshake scheduling.  If you're like to see someone in person, contact Ashleigh Jennings in the Office of Student Life in Dublin.
  4. Then choose your “Appointment Type.” Your appointment type is your main reason for wanting to talk with a career advisor.
  5. You will then see career advisor availability. It will default on the first day the individual is available.  If you want a date further in the future, you can use the “arrow” button to move from week to week.
  6. When you find the date and time that works for you, click on it.
  7. Then enter some information on what we can help you with and select your appointment medium. Until at least August 12, all appointments will be virtual.
  8. For virtual appointments, your career advisor will send you a link to the Teams meeting for that day and time. If the meeting is in person, pay close attention to the confirmation email from Handshake that will confirm the location.
    1. To use Microsoft Teams, download the app to your computer or phone.
    2. When you click on the meeting link for your appointment to begin, you will login using your MGA credentials.
    3. Teams can be used as a phone call only if you are unable to use the video function. However, if you prefer to call into our office for the appointment, you will need to notify your career advisor of this preference ahead of time.
  9. If you have questions, contact us at .

Graduate/Professional School

Deciding to attend a graduate or professional school is a big decision. Keep in mind that MGA has added several graduate programs and offers information sessions through the Office of Graduate Studies each semester. Below are several resource that may assist you in preparing for this new experience.

Request a Presentation

The Center for Career and Leadership Development is available for classroom and student organization presentations.  Please make your request at least 4 - 6 weeks prior to your planned date so that we can ensure that a staff member is available.  We have career advisors who can present in person as well as present virtually.

Student organizations and academic departments are also encouraged to partner with us on programs that we traditionally plan each semester such as our etiquette dinners, career fairs, resume review days, employer mock interview events, and more. Click Here to Request A Presentation

The Professional Closet

For the safety of students and our staff, the Professional Closets on the Macon and Cochran campuses will be closed until further notice.  We encourage you to talk with our staff about other economical professional attire options that you can find online or in local stores.  We know how to find a bargain!

Professional Headshots

This fall, we ask that students schedule an appointment for their professional headshots in Macon or Cochran.  We will open these appointment options in Handshake after August 17.

Students and alumni may receive a professional headshot at no charge to use for their LinkedIn and Handshake profiles.  Students and alumni may also find these headshots useful for LinkedIn, their Handshake profile, portfolios, email accounts, and other virtual tools they use in the professional world.  Check the appointment options in Handshake at mga.joinhandshake.com to schedule this fall.  We will also host two Professional Headshot Days on October 6 (Macon - SLC 261) and October 7 (Cochran - location TBA) where students will be able to drop-in for a photo. We will have a socially distanced waiting area available for students on those days.
