Description:

Job Summary: iLEAD Peer Educators provide programming and confidential peer-to-peer mentoring to connect students to resources that increase persistence in college during challenging times.  The Head position will serve as the leader for the specific campus group of Peer Educators in Macon, Cochran, Eastman, Dublin, or Warner Robins.  In addition to duties as Peer Educator, the Head position will be responsible for organizing and leading planning meetings, tracking participation of other Peer Educators, and communicating with team to ensure that two programs are completed each semester for the iLEAD Peer Educator Program.  5 students will be selected for this specific role for the academic year. 

Major Duties:

Administrative 

  • Lead communication efforts for iLEAD Peer Educators for a specific campus group to include scheduling planning planning meetings
  • Plan and facilitate planning meetings
  • Record and report attendance of iLEAD Peer Educators at meetings and programs
  • Report monthly to the iLEAD campus advisors and/or program coordinators
  • Delegate tasks to other iLEAD Peer Educators to ensure that all programs requirements are met

Program Planning 

  • Work with a team on individual campus to plan, promote, and facilitate at least two programs per semester in collaboration with campus departments who provide student support services that impact student persistence and success in college.
  • Incorporate focus areas into programming such as health and wellness, mental health, diversity, academic mindset and success, and personal development.
  • Meet at least once per month with campus team to plan programs and share information Communicate regularly and attend meetings during the fall and spring with campus team to plan programs and share information.
  • Attend iLEAD outreach programs planned for your campus

Outreach 

  • Share campus resource information with peers, friends, and classmates to increase student engagement and use of services
  • Attend and assist with campus/university events in order to connect and refer peers to resources.
  • Market specific iLEAD programs for your campus as well as other resources through a variety of methods including Presence/MGA Knight Life, social media, class announcements, and casual peer interactions

Training 

  • Complete NASPA’s Certified Peer Educator Training online
  • Complete in-person MGA Resource Training in August
  • Complete ongoing trainings throughout the fall and spring semester.

Knowledge Required by the Position

  • Knowledge acquired through NASPA Certified Peer Educator training, which is to be completed before official duties begin in late August
  • Knowledge of being a student at MGA as well as applicable student resources and services
  • Demonstrated leadership potential; self-motivated.
  • Exhibit strong communication, interpersonal, and helping skills in order to assist their peers with accessing campus resources.

Supervisor

  • The iLEAD Peer Educator coordinators (Director of Center for Career & Leadership Development, Coordinator for Student Leadership Programs, and a representative from Student Affairs) as well as the campus advisor for the student’s particular group will work directly with the Head ILEAD Peer Educators to provide advisement and guidance.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Current MGA student in good academic and community standing who has completed at least one full fall or spring semester in the previous year at MGA.
  • 2.7 GPA or higher is required for the Head position.
  • Availability to complete 40 hours of training and service to the iLEAD program over the fall and spring.
  • Must be registered for classes at MGA for the upcoming fall semester and plan to be enrolled in the following spring.
  • Interested in working with a diverse student body and learning about other cultures.
