JOB SUMMARY: This position assists with the operation and support of MGA’s audio/visual equipment and collaboration systems on all campuses.  

MAJOR DUTIES: 

  • Develops written and in-person training for faculty and staff on collaboration systems.
  • Trains staff on audio/visual and collaborative system use case, setup, and maintenance.
  • Provides event production planning and production support for MGA events.
  • Supports academic units with all audio/visual needs.
  • Manages and maintains distance learning and collaboration platforms.
  • Oversees all video conferencing and external audio/visual needs for academic classes and events.
  • Maintains and repairs audiovisual equipment.
  • Understands and supports video conferencing and video capture.
  • Installs or assists in installing AV systems.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses AV system problems.
  • Recommends and/or performs minor maintenance to correct problems based on knowledge of system operations.
  • Replaces defective or inadequate software or hardware.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair of computer hardware, software and peripherals.
  • Knowledge of the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of audio-visual equipment.
  • Knowledge of IT customer support principles and practices.
  • Ability to solve problems. 
  • Skill in decision-making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Proficient interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. 

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Information Technology Services Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results. 

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include hardware and software installation guides, software usage policies, network usage policies, and department and college policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application. 

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK: 

  • The work consists of varied specialized systems support duties. Technology innovations and changing user needs contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • This person’s scope would also include monitoring the needs of the equipment and personnel of their campus and reporting such needs to the Director to assist in maintaining supply and repairs as necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • The work consists of varied specialized systems support duties. Technology innovations and changing user needs contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to provide specialized support audio-visual equipment in the classroom and on campus, to support events for the school and student organizations, and to manage the hardware and software systems. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of college operations.
  • The work requires the ability to lift and transport heavy objects such as PC/MAC and AV equipment. Some AV equipment may exceed 60 lbs individually and require overhead lifting. Some crates that require team lifting may exceed a total weight of 300 lbs. 

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position may assist with the coordination of student workers and may assist technical staff on projects, AV issues, and in day-to-day operations. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of audiovisual systems and PC/MAC operations.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Organizational skills/background to allow for efficient management and resource/time allocation to maintain smooth operations on campus. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Technology related area.
  • At least two years of audiovisual related experience in an academic institution.
  • At least two years of computer related experience in a Windows environment.
  • Advance knowledge of user applications such as Microsoft Office/Office 365. 

COMPENSATION CLASSIFICATION: 

  • Position is non-exempt (biweekly).
  • Pay Grade 18.
