JOB SUMMARY: The Admissions Specialist analyzes complex criteria to make decisions for academic admissibility.  This position must demonstrate professionalism at all times, as a front-facing representation of the University. 

MAJOR DUTIES: 

      Issue admissions decisions for incoming and returning students 

  • Evaluate student files, to include test scores and other supporting documents, to determine admissibility to the institution
  • Enter student data into the computerized database
  • Maintain data integrity
  • Use multiple information systems to evaluate and process student files

     Serves students and family members, faculty, and other staff with outstanding customer service

  • Communicate with potential students regarding admission and enrollment into the University
  • Collaborate with recruitment, advisement, and other internal entities to ensure seamless transition through the enrollment phases
  • Provide campus tours to prospective students, as needed
  • Perform related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Assistant Director assigns work in terms of general guidelines mandated by University policy. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and proprietary of the final results. 

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include University System of Georgia admissions policy in addition to departmental policies and procedures. These guidelines require interpretation, organization, and prioritization. 

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK:

  • The work consists of significant analytical processing related to student file review.  Changes in USG policy, and implementation of said policy at the University contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to assist prospective students with admission to the university.  Success in this position contributes to the overall success of the institution. 

CONTACTS:

  • Contacts include prospective students and family members, university administration, faculty, and staff.
  • Contacts typically request information related to outstanding documents, as well as status of the students admissions file.
  • Contacts typically request information related to the next steps in the enrollment process. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • The work is typically done while sitting at a desk. There are also times when there is significant standing and walking.
  • The work is typically performed in an office. 

  SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or high school diploma/GED and four years of higher education enrollment experience: or a combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Technical aptitude and experience with databases and information systems
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand and adhere to institutional, USG, and national policies, procedures, and best practices 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of the Banner database, imaging system, and CRM system
  • Skill in the provision of customer service to applicants and students
  • Skill in oral and written communication 

COMPENSATION CLASSIFICATION: 

  • Non-exempt
  • Salary Grade 14
