This position directs the University’s auxiliary services operations, including campus store, dining services and catering, conferencing, vending, transportation, card services, parking, licensing, camps, and has an administrative role in Housing and Health Services.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Responsible for strategic planning of all auxiliary service units.

• Provides direction to unit managers in planning and implementing initiatives.

• Develops budget proposals and manages approved budgets for all Auxiliary Services units.

• Develops and monitors the implementation and success of unit five-year business plans and annual assessments.

• Handles various day-to-day auxiliary operations for units without a direct supervisor.

• Resolves customer inquiries related to all auxiliary units, including dining and meal plans.

• Manages and implements marketing plans for all related units.

• Negotiates and manages contracts with outside vendors.

• Develops and implements policies and procedures for all auxiliary units.

• Creates RFP’s for all auxiliary services.

• Serves on university committees as assigned.

• Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates and develops personnel.

• Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

• Knowledge of budget development and management principles.

• Knowledge of retail sales principles, including those related to marketing, pricing, planning, discounting, merchandising, cashiering and inventory management.

• Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

• Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.

• Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.

• Skill in decision making and problem solving.

• Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

• Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: This position reports to the Executive Director of Budgets & Auxiliary Services and is in the division of Finance & Operations.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the campus store policies and procedures manual, contract requirements, Board of Regents policies, and University policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application. This position develops department guidelines.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK:

• The work consists of varied management and supervisory duties. The variety of services to be directed contributes to the complexity of the position.

• The purpose of this position is to direct the university’s auxiliary services operations. Success in this position contributes to a positive student experience and improved financial stability for all auxiliary units.

CONTACTS:

• Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university employees, vendors, contractors, students, parents/guardians and members of the general public.

• Contacts are typically to provide services; to give or exchange information; to resolve problems; to motivate or influence persons; or to justify, defend or negotiate matters.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.

• This position is based out of the Macon campus, but occasionally has to travel to other university campuses to complete related work.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct supervision over the Director of Campus Stores, Director of the Hatcher Conference Center, Pepsi student ambassador, and part-time shuttle drivers. This position also manages the Food Services and vending contracts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in business or a comparable field of study, or comparable work experience within the higher education industry.

• Three to five years of related experience in the field of higher education auxiliary services.

• At least two years of supervisory experience.

• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Masters degree in business or a comparable field of study.

• Certified Auxiliary Services Professional (CASP) designation.

SALARY: Pay Grade 24
