This position administers the university’s athletic, recreation and wellness programs under the supervision of the Director of Athletics.

 MAJOR DUTIES:                                                                                                                                 

  • Provide direction and leadership for the university’s varsity athletic
  • Serve as Sport Administrator for assigned sports
  • Oversee NAIA Compliance and Champions of Character.
  • Oversee all aspects of the University Wellness and Recreation Centers, including club sports and intramural
  • Assist with department budgets and financial management
  • Build strong relationships with student-athletes, teams, coaches, campus partners and community members
  • Represent Athletics Department on Campus, Southern States Athletic Conference, and NAIA committees
  • Coordinate the development of student-athlete policies and updates to the Student-Athlete Handbook
  • Game management as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics

The Assistant Director of Athletics, Recreation & Wellness assigns work in terms of department goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of department activities


Guidelines include Southern States Athletic Conference and NAIA rules, regulations and guidelines, the student handbook, sports association rules and regulations, University System of Georgia policies, and university policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.                                                                                                                              


  • The work consists of varied management and supervisory duties. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position. 
  • The purpose of this position. is to assist in directing the college’s athletics, recreation and wellness activities. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those activities.                                                                                                                       


  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college employees, members of the news media representatives of athletic associations, athletic directors at other colleges, community members, vendors, students, and members of the general public. 
  • Contacts are typically to provide services and to give or exchange information: to resolve problems; to motivate or influence persons; or to justify, defend or negotiate matters.                                                                                                           


  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects, climbs ladders, and distinguishes between shades of color
  • The work is typically performed in an office, in sports facilities, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts.                                                                                                     


This position has direct supervision over seasonal, Head Coaches (2-4), Health and Wellness Coordinators (2), Intramural and Club Sports Coordinators (1), and other seasonal, part-time and student employees.                                                                                                      


  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics preferred
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organization skills.

 SALARY: Pay Grade 19
