The Student Success Coordinator works to support and advance the retention of MGA students through the strategic development and operation of the university's strategic enrollment and retention plan. This position will provide support for MGA early alert intervention processes and graduation. Under the direction of the University Registrar the Student Retention and Graduation Specialist will play a key role in enhancing the academic and career success of students at the university, consistent with the vision of the Middle Georgia State University.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Collaborates with departments and faculty to organize, and coordinate interactive support intervention initiatives and early alert

• Identify, implement, and/or refer students to the appropriate interventions and resources to advance student success.

• Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public.

• Assist with the awarding of degrees and certificates.

• Assist with coordinating the review of student records to determine graduation eligibility.

• Processes transcript requests.

• Monitor Academic Navigator use and coordinate updates as needed.

• Regularly pull reports from College Scheduler to provide data to the Registrar and VPEM

• Plan, coordinate, organize, and assess programs and activities.

• Work with students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.

• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.

• Assists with a variety of other Registrar’s Office activities.

• Responds to queries from faculty, staff and students and external entities on a range of academic policies and procedures.

• Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

• Experience with best practice on the understanding of how to leverage campus technology to support student success.

• Assist the Enrollment Management team in implementing Retention Best-Practices.

• Experience to be able to analyze and interpret data, and prepare useable information and reports for various constituencies regarding student success.

• Familiarity with Banner or similar student information system ,College Scheduler, MyDegree and proficiency with Microsoft Office products

• Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with a wide variety of constituencies both within and outside the university community.

• Ability to work on multiple projects; strong follow-up skills; strong ability to multi-task and continually prioritize changing project tasks and deliverables.

• Collaborates with Academic Affairs and the Enrollment Management Division to carryout initiatives pertaining to momentum year.

• Ability to work with student information system (Banner) or similar, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Outlook.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, the program area, and of the overall organization.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The University Registrar assigns work in terms of general instructions. The position will be supervised by the Macon campus Assistant Registrar. Supervisor will spot-check completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include Board of Regents policies, agreements with other institutions, FERPA requirements, and university policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK:

• Work consistent with graduation clearance and degree eligibility.

• The work consist of related duties to provide comprehensive support to students who have challenges ; assist students to identify their problems, as related to their particular needs and circumstances., academic and student support interventions for students in academic difficulty or who are not making timely progress to graduation. This includes assessing current interventions and making recommendations to make changes to improve the effectiveness of practices, policies, and procedures.

• Establish effective and meaningful relationships with students to support their academic goals by utilizing a combination of high-level analytical and interpersonal skills as well as independent judgment when developing effective and creative solutions to student problems; work with students (and parents, when appropriate) using strong communication skills, to explain complex university policies, identify student needs, and to provide direction in helping students obtain resources and navigate challenges; including students who are at-risk, probation, or on dismissal, and students who have been identified, e.g. via early alerts or graduation initiatives as needing interventions; serve as an active team member internal and external that will facilitate student success by providing expert knowledge to identify and explore solutions and interventions. Collaborate with various departments to implement interventions to improve student outcomes.

• Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to justify, defend or settle matters.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.

• The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: The University Registrar assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’ degree or the equivalent experience required.

• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for two to three years.

• Familiar with Student Information Systems (banner preferred).

• Familiar with document imaging software.

• Familiar with MyDegree.

• Experience working with students in a higher education setting. Experience with data collection, maintenance, retrieval, and analysis.

• Familiar with Catalog and higher education Policy and procedures preferred.

SALARY: Pay Grade 17
