POSITION SUMMARY

The Admissions Specialist II performs data entry for prospective students as well as work that involves the performance of complex and varied tasks. This position will require coverage of the reception area on an as needed basis to assist students, faculty, and staff. The Admissions Specialist II is expected to perform satisfactorily with a minimum of supervision. Good communication skills are required, with the ability to deal effectively with students and staff. Must show initiative and exercise judgment in organizing and prioritizing, and must be able to work with constant interruptions.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  •  Evaluates student files and transcripts and makes admission decisions.
  • Enters student data into the computerized database.
  • Scans documents into the imaging system.
  • Processes high school and college transcripts, on an as needed basis.
  • Answers telephone roll line, as needed.
  • Advises prospective students and applicants concerning admissions policies and procedures.
  • Train new staff members on policies and procedures, related to admission to the university.
  • Assists other staff and faculty with student orientation.
  • Processes new and former student applications, on an as needed basis.
  • Processes test scores, on an as needed basis.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Operates various office machines, such as computers, fax machines, printers, photocopiers.
  • Assists other staff as needed and performs related work as required.
  • Provide campus tours to prospective students.

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  •  Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job related software programs.
  • Knowledge of Middle Georgia State University admissions policies.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of the Banner database and Nolij imaging systems.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in the provision of customer services to applicants and students.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university and a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a higher education enrollment department.
  • Or
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.

 

SALARY

Pay Grade 15
