Middle Georgia State University is seeking an experienced Respiratory Therapist and educator to serve as Faculty in the Department of Respiratory Therapy (RESP). The Faculty position will be responsible for didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction, working collaboratively with the Chair, as well as other faculty. Position will contribute to maintaining program accreditation. This position includes functions related to teaching undergraduate level courses; advising undergraduate students; instructing undergraduate laboratories and clinical experiences; engaging In scholarly activities in areas relevant to the department and university; engaging In community and experiential learning opportunities, and assuming departmental and college committee responsibilities and representing the department and university interests internally and externally. The faculty will work closely with the Chair and Director of Clinical Education, other departments and partner with other academic areas as required. The faculty is responsible for curricular development, innovation, and helping integrate pedagogy into the RESP program. This includes creating novel signature assignments, working on assignment mapping in courses, course design work that supports continuing development, and implementation of curriculum as an instrument of teaching learning and assessment.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Provide professional contributions to the Department, School, and University.
  • Instruct assigned didactic courses and clinical
  • Maintain in-depth understanding in chosen field which includes participation in professional development and maintenance of valid training status per University policies.
  • Attend regularly scheduled departmental, school, university committee meetings and
  • Be technologically literate, knowledgeable, and innovative in the use of a variety of modem teaching technologies including the use of computers and multi-media in lectures, laboratories, and distance learning environments.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward work, students, colleagues and administration.
  • Establish annual objectives for professional growth In consultation with the Chair.
  • Participate in scheduled institutional activities as required.
  • Assist new and continuing students in advisement capacity on courses and programs, with active participation in departmental and university recruitment activities.
  • Maintain regular office hours and be available to provide help for students.

  • Maintain necessary records such as program and class enrollments; plus grades of student
  • Assist in the preparation of appropriate University documents such as catalog, handbook, and brochures.
  • Faculty should maintain instructor certifications in Basic and Advanced Life Support appropriate to teaching responsibilities and departmental needs.
  • Actively assess program to determine effectiveness and meet all accreditation standards as defined by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
  • Demonstrate an ability to be creative In planning and implementation of Respiratory Care
  • Pursue scholarship of teaching and research relevant to the profession Respiratory
  • Maintain membership in the American Association for Respiratory
  • Adherence to the Faculty Handbook of Middle Georgia State

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited agency recognized by the S. Department of Education (USDE).
  • Experience in scholarly research activities and
  • Certifications and Instructor status in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Credentials in National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) specialty areas such as Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NP-S), Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS), Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT), or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT).
  • Experience in adult, pediatric, and neonatal patient respiratory

 Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Currently licensed in the state of Georgia, or the ability to acquire a Georgia Current RRT credential.
  • Minimum of a BS Degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • Minimum of Master's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in clinical critical care and 1 year of teaching/clinical instruction experience in an accredited Respiratory Care program.
