Description:

Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates for the position of Career Services Advisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists students with career development skills including resume and cover letter writing; interview skills; and job search strategies as necessary
  • Organizes job fairs, workshops, and recruitment opportunities that will connect students to employers to provide information regarding future career options
  • Disseminates employment and internship opportunities to appropriate faculty, organizations, and students
  • Develops strong relationships with MGA department heads and faculty; targets key faculty for employer recruitment opportunities
  • Works closely with other staff members in the planning and coordination of career outreach and programs such as job fairs, career services programs, and employer panels
  • Conducts regular outreach efforts including classroom presentations, Orientations, Open Houses, etc.
  • Supervises Career Services interns and work/study students
  • Oversees Career Services social media accounts and online job board (i.e. CareerLinks, Handshake, etc.)
  • Provides career assessment and interpretation to undecided students
  • Provides information to students on available trainings and community resources
  • Advises students of the skills needed in various fields, the average salary of each field, and the requirements of each field
  • Advises students on the degree and educational program needed for a particular career
  • Prepares, organizes, and maintains appropriate reports and statistical summaries
  • Maintains ongoing professional development via involvement with relevant professional associations such as the GACE (Georgia Association of Colleges and Employers) and NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers)
  • Supports staff on other campuses as warranted

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • 1 year experience providing academic/administrative support to college students in group and individual sessions
  • Proficient with general computer functions such as Google Drive, Microsoft Office; sufficient computer keyboard typing speed with reliable accuracy for input of student data entries, email addresses, and workload documentation/evaluations
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License

  • Self-starter; excellent verbal and written communicator; organized, efficient, and student-focused; able to implement department policies and procedures
  • Able to problem solve and make sound decisions to accomplish tasks with accuracy in the timeframe provided
  • Polished customer service skills that result in supportive and effective interaction with faculty, staff, current and prospective students, and employers
  • Ability to demonstrate positive and collaborative interactions in the face of challenges and/or sudden changes in plans

Physical Demands:

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Individual must sit for long periods of time at a desk or in a car
  • Individual must be able to stand for hours at a time while attending events or performing speaking engagements
  • Individual must be able to physically travel in a car to different locations as needed

SALARY: Position Grade 16
