Job Description: Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates for a Coordinator of Presidential Events & Communications who will report to the Chief of Staff.  This position provides administrative support to the Chief of Staff and coordinates communications and special events  directly associated with the Office of the President such as convocation, graduation, staff and faculty events, etc. 


  • Provides high-level administrative support to the Chief of Staff.
  • Develops, implements and administers departmental office systems and procedures.
  • Maintains files and records.
  • Drafts letters and announcements for review by Chief of Staff.
  • Prioritizes conflicting needs, handles matters expeditiously, proactively and follows-through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures.
  • Prepares internal and external reports.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
  • Works collaboratively with the Executive Assistant to the President and the Conference Center Director.
  • Coordinates the logistics necessary to plan and execute conferences, meetings, and various types of special events for the Office of the President.
  • Interfaces with multiple divisions to plan events, and oversees their implementation. Recommends appropriate venue options based on the scope and specifications of the event. Liaises with catering vendors, staging staff, and other parties participating in producing the event. Acts as a primary day-of-event representative before, during, and after event. Tracks and monitors event expenses; may oversee event billing and payment processes.
  • Oversees the University Calendar
  • Develops budgets for events
  • Coordinates special event communications and logistics.
  • Facilitates production of print and digital marketing communication materials.
  • Conducts post event evaluations in preparation for future events
  • Supports community engagement events of the Office of the President
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light objects.The work is typically performed in an office or meeting room.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a course of study related to the occupational field and proven event management experience with an impressive portfolio of previously managed events.  Position involves occasional evening and weekend duties and would have responsibilities across all five campus locations resulting in the need to travel to all campuses.  A valid driver’s license is required.

  • Experience with InDesign or design software a plus. Fully understands social media requirements, incorporating new tools and techniques to adapt to the ever changing world of communications
  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and their correlating insights and analytics tools
