Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates for a full-time Disability Services Specialist. Disability Services supports the mission of the University and the retention, progression, and graduation of a diverse student body by providing disability assistance in the area of personal, academic and career services to assist students in the attainment of their personal goals. Disability services is designed to meet federal guidelines and the complex needs of students with special needs, and the educational opportunities orchestrated to enhance student learning in and out of the classroom and appreciation of diversity. The Specialist reports to the Director of Disability Services.


  • Interpret students’ disability documentation and reports as well as determining and providing individual academic accommodation.
  • Consult with faculty, staff and administration about the developmental, personal, and disability needs of the student.
  • Provides general support programs for students with disabilities.
  • Encourage the development of a supportive campus environment for optimum student development.
  • Work cooperatively with faculty, staff and other University personnel for the benefit of the students and the institution.
  • Participate with the director and other staff in the developing policies and procedures for Disability Services.
  • Perform assignments consistent with the needs of the disability office and the University.
  • Provide appropriate community referrals as needed to students.
  • Maintain an energetic and creative attitude towards life-long learning.
  • Serve on the Middle Georgia State University Assessment and Care Team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Disability Services.


A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology, or related field is required. Must be able to relate well to diverse constitutes with varying disabilities. Must have strong oral, written and electronic communication skills.


A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

SALARY: Pay Grade 15
