Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates for a Financial Analyst I position. This position performs financial analysis functions in support of the University budget development, monitoring, and management functions as well as accounting for the Auxiliary units of the University.


• Assists in the preparation of the annual budget.

• Assists in the preparation of the Quarterly Amendment, Quarterly Budget to Actuals Report, Trend Analysis, and other reports required by the USG system office.

• Generates monthly reports from the financial system and forwards to departmental budget managers.

• Analyzes budget system reports for variances and drills down to find causes and or corrections needed.

• Updates and monitors position management information.

• Assists with Budget Services’ role in the hiring process.

• Works with Campus Store Director to complete month-end entries including cost of goods sold.

• Handles Fixed Based Operations (FBO) invoicing, payments and journal entries

• Files state sales tax for Campus Store & FBO

• Works with Office of Finance on other Auxiliary month-end duties as needed

• Assists in the review of the Auxiliary Financial Statements prepared by the Office of Finance

• Undertakes other duties as directed by the Senior Budget Analyst.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Degree in Accounting is required. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines. Knowledge of budget management principles. Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and written communication.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of University and University System of Georgia policies and procedures.

SALARY: Pay Grade 19
