Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates for a Grant Writer. The primary responsibilities include the preparation and submission of proposals and grant applications to private and public foundations and organizations. In this role the preparation of proposals includes researching, identifying, developing and vetting materials that represent the quality of excellence of programs being offered and/or planned at MGA. This position will also be responsible for crafting proposals cover letters and, on an as-needed basis, departmental correspondence and communication pieces. This position reports to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement but will work closely with the entire advancement and alumni relations team.


• Generate proposals and supporting documents so as to solicit funds for the University.

• Research and identify new funding opportunities from the governmental, corporate and private funding sources.

• Create, implement and maintain a “Foundation Relationship” calendar of activities and due dates.

• Engage with faculty, staff and students so as to create a collection of funding opportunities.

• Create and submit stewardship reports to grant funders.

• Maintain all contact, submission and donor interchanges as a record of activity in the donor database.

• As needed, supply donor communications and correspondence.

• Support special events as requested.

• Be an active and engaged member of the Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations team.

• All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must have excellent writing, communication and computer skills. A background in photography and graphic design is helpful but not required. Must be able to meet internal and external deadlines. This positions requires excellent time management and organizational skills. Must have the ability to successfully complete numerous time sensitive projects. Must be able to handle internal and external stakeholders. Must have the ability to challenge oneself to excel. Must have the ability to see opportunities where others might not. Must have the ability to work well with others. Must have the ability to think broadly and process lots of data and information. Must have the ability to conduct research, gather information and produce compelling proposals. Must maintain the highest ethical standards. Must be self-driven and self-motivated. Must see the lighter side of life. Must represent the University in the best possible light. Must understand that what we do is life changing. Must have the ability to make MGA proposal submissions stand out above all others.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred, but an established and proven track record of successful grant writing in lieu of a bachelor’s degree will be considered.

SALARY: Pay Grade 22
