JOB SUMMARY: The Head Coach is responsible for Club Football activities at the Cochran campus.  He/she reports to the Director of Athletics & Wellness.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Head Coach Football Club;
  • Recruiting of players;
  • Conduct practices;
  • Conduct team meetings;
  • Recruiting of assistant coaches and game day staff;
  • Assists with maintenance of Football game and practice fields, prepares game field for competitions;
  • Collect and account for all team dues and payments:
  • Coordinate team travel, including transportation, meals and lodging when necessary;
  • Secure and arrange payment for game officials;
  • Maintain program budget and order proper equipment for play, staff training, and maintaining the fields;
  • Work with community organizations to promote football club in the community;
  • Lead and conduct fundraising efforts for club football;
  • Create policies and procedures as needed;
  • Work with Associate Director of Athletics to hire, train, certify, and supervise student assistants to facilitate in game management for all club football games;
  • Reserve campus facilities necessary for program use;
  • Provide Associate AD with information for the program website to keep updated and informative;
  • Secure transportation for any off campus trips or events;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and Associate Director.

 KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of athletic program management principles.
  • Knowledge of sports field maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of Football rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the coaching and training of students.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in oral and written communication

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK:

  • The work consists of varied program management and coaching duties. The variety of tasks to be oversee contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to help direct and coach the University’s Club Football program. Success in    this position results in the successful provision of programming to Middle Georgia State University students.

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, other University personnel, students, and coaches from other institutions, referees, business professionals, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to motivate or influence persons.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
  • The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position supervises any assistant football coaches, both paid and volunteer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Bachelor degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
  • Experience as a player or coach at the collegiate or professional level
  • Minimum of 2 years football coaching experience preferred
  • Certifications in CPR and First Aid preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
