Job Description: Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates for a Nurse Practitioner.    This position directs, manages and promotes the provision of Health Services for the Cochran Campus of Middle Georgia State University and ensures equitable services and referrals for students on all five campuses (Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman and Warner Robins).  Primary work location is the Cochran Campus; however, travel to other campuses is required.  Clinical work is performed only when classes are in session and salary is proportionate to work schedule; administrative tasks (i.e. meetings, training) may be required when classes are not in session, on a limited basis. 

MAJOR DUTIES: 

  • Provide medical care to currently enrolled students and currently employed faculty and staff through assessment, diagnosis and treatment of episodic illnesses. Develop plans of care and prescribes medication and other treatment options.  Documents clinical findings in patient medical charts.
  • Refer patient to other health care providers and/or other community resources as needed.
  • Working with other Student Health Services staff, develop and continuous improve culturally relevant educational programs for a diverse student population, through the development of educational programs and activities that promote individual health and responsibility.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).
  • Create and maintain on going assessment plans to measure objectives to ensure student satisfaction and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Advise senior student affairs staff on issues related to student wellness to ensure student satisfaction and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies.
  • Working with other Student Health Services staff, develop and oversee the annual budget for student health services.
  • Maintain and update clinical medical forms
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a master’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field, possession of or ability to readily obtain state certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant; sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years; possession of a valid driver’s license by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Knowledge and skills required by the position include: knowledge of disease processes and presentation in patients; knowledge of treatments for any given diagnosis or problem; knowledge of budget management principles; knowledge of medical records maintenance and privacy principles; knowledge of vaccination schedules and procedures; skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs; skill in the diagnosis of illnesses; skill in decision making and problem solving; skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public, and skill in oral and written communication. 

SALARY:  Pay Grade 25
