Peer Mentors will provide confidential peer-to-peer mentoring for the Fall 2022 semester. Peer Mentors will support and encourage students with their academic and personal acclimation to Middle Georgia State University. Assistance will include, but is not limited to, orienting assigned students to campus, connecting students with academic support centers, modeling good study skills, and helping students stay abreast of faculty expectations (as outlined in syllabi). Peer Mentors will provide semester-long support and encouragement. Mentors are needed on the Macon and Cochran campuses.



  • Complete NASPA training and attend Peer Mentor Training on the Cochran or Macon campus.
  • Work closely with instructors, the Writing Center’s staff, the MARC’s staff and the Student Success centers’ staff.
  • Accompany assigned students to initial tutoring sessions
  • Provide one-on-one mentoring sessions which will be face-to-face and/or virtual
  • Communicate with mentees weekly through MGA email, Microsoft Teams, or other approved methods
  • Educate assigned students about campus resources, study skills, and research strategies
  • Document and keep accurate records of mentoring sessions with students
  • Attend and assist with campus/university events to promote academic preparation and campus resources.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.



  • Share campus resource information with students in designated sections Knowledge acquired through NASPA Certified Peer Educator training, which is to be completed before official duties begin in September
  • Knowledge of being a student at MGA as well as applicable student resources and services
  • Demonstrated leadership potential; self-motivated
  • Exhibit strong communication, interpersonal, and helping skills in order to assist their peers with accessing campus resources
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population.
  • Flexibility in working hours. .



  • Must be a currently enrolled MGA Student
  • Must be currently enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • Must be able to work up to 10 hours each week
  • Must comply with strict confidentiality of information
  • Cannot be enrolled in Learning Support courses
  • Priority given to student applicants who successfully exited Learning Support courses
