Macon, GA

Full Name: Lana Brooke Harris.

Age: 22.

Hometown: Warner Robins.

Residence: Byron.

High School:
Warner Robins High School. “I was very active in my high school drama club. I was also in color guard for the marching band.”

Current Employment: “I work as a victim advocate for the district attorney's office of the Macon Judicial Circuit.”

Degree:
Bachelor of science in psychology, Class of 2013.

College Activities:
“I worked for the Student Life office for two years. I was webmaster and then later president of the Psychology Club. I was a weather anchor for MSC-TV and I wrote articles for the Macon Statement. My other activities included appearing in the theater production ‘Balm for Gilead,’ being part of the Honors Program and serving as vice president of the Honors Student Association. Also, I was on the Student Honors, Awards and Graduation Committee, presented at the Southeastern Regional Honors Conference and the Honors Colloquium and I studied abroad in Scotland.”

Career: “Building off my current job it is my goal to get a master’s in counseling so I can begin
practice as a therapist. Eventually I would like to get my Ph.D in clinical psychology.”

She chose Middle Georgia State College (MSC) because … “It was the most affordable option that would still provide me with a quality education. I could live at home, which made it affordable. I was able to graduate without any student debt, which is a blessing to me now.”

The one thing that surprised her about Middle Georgia State was … “How much I loved it! When I graduated high school, all my friends went off to new places while I stayed at home to attend college. It was a little upsetting. But Macon State and later Middle Georgia State quickly became a place where I felt like I belonged.”

Her favorite professor was … “Dr. David Biek! The best kinds of teachers are those who love what they're teaching. Dr. Biek is obviously passionate about psychology, and his enthusiasm was catching. He also cares about his students. I remember a time when I went to him completely freaking out because I felt like I couldn't write a research paper. He patiently worked with me until I felt that not only could I complete the research paper, I was excited to do so. His classes were challenging, but because the bar was set high, I learned more in his classes than others.”

One thing people don’t know about her is … “I love writing and I'm working on a novel now!”

The one person she’d most like to meet is … “The person in charge of building Stonehenge so I can ask what that was all about.”

Five years from now she sees herself … “Working as a therapist and traveling whenever I can.”
