Macon, GA

If you love movies, you'll want to take part in the Macon Film Festival, now in its ninth year.

For the fourth consecutive year, Middle Georgia State College is proud to support the Macon Film Festival through a community partnership. This year, MGSC is a venue sponsor – the Cox Capitol Theatre!

Between Thursday, Feb. 27, and Sunday, March 2, about 75 films will be screened at downtown Macon venues, including the Cox Capitol Theatre, the Douglass Theatre and 567 Center for Renewal on Cherry Street.

College students with current student IDs get a free day pass, which includes the evening special screening.

Visit www.maconfilmfestival.com for times, dates and locations of this year’s entries. Categories include animation, documentary feature, documentary short, music documentary, music video, narrative feature, narrative short and student short. Workshops also are scheduled.

Recently, MovieMaker Magazine readers selected the Macon Film Festival as one of the Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World.

Macon Film Festival’s special guest this year is actor Matthew Modine, who starred in the critically acclaimed films Birdy, Full Metal Jacket, Equinox and The Dark Knight Rises. He will attend a special screening of Birdy at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the MGSC-sponsored venue, the Cox Capitol Theatre.

The Macon Film Festival coordinators also are looking for volunteers. If you are interested, complete the form on the festival website and send an email to magavolunteers@gmail.com. This is a great way to view the films and meet the actors and directors.

The Macon Film Festival office is at 567 Cherry Street.
