“This is a great opportunity for high school marching band and colorguard members to continue their participation at the collegiate level,” said Dr. N. Alan Clark, director of instrumental music for Middle Georgia State’s music department who will direct The Band of Knights.
It will be Middle Georgia State’s first marching band and colorguard. The former Middle Georgia College, one of the institutions that now forms Middle Georgia State, had a marching band in the past but it disbanded after the school discontinued junior-college level football. The Band of Knights is another step in Middle Georgia State’s evolution in student life opportunities and athletics as it marches toward university status.
Modern college marching bands include brass, percussion and woodwind sections, as well as color guards. Clad in white uniforms trimmed in black and purple, members of The Band of Knights will perform at all Middle Georgia State home football games this fall.
The Band of Knights is based on the Cochran Campus but any qualified Middle Georgia State student can participate. Members of The Band of Knights must be full-time students (at least 12 credit hours) and take part in an audition. Auditions began in February and will continue through preseason band camp in August.
High school students preparing for college and current Middle Georgia State students interested in joining The Band of Knights are asked to fill out and return an online interest form. A Band of Knights representative will get in touch with you with audition information and other details.
