Middle Georgia State Recognized For Charitable Giving

Recipients of Commissioner's Awards are runners up in the category of highest contribution per employee, grouped by employee population. Middle Georgia State received the award in the category of state agencies with 501-1,000 employees.
The Georgia Department of Administrative Services recognized the outstanding achievements of Middle Georgia State and 20 other agencies and members of the University System of Georgia at the annual State Charitable Contributions Program awards ceremony on June 18.
Dee Lindsey, director of Student Life at Middle Georgia State, headed up the institution's charitable giving program team. Team members were: Emmy Callis, Christy Faulk, David Fuller, Gloria Wonnum, Melissa Houston, Renee Pearman, Yolanda Petty, Wendy Pooler, Scotty Rainwater, Cristina Saldana, Shamani Shikwambi, Sheron Smith, De'Anna Thompson, Carey Wimberly and Margo Woodham.
Middle Georgia State employees donated $9,176 this year.
In the past 17 years, the state giving program has raised more than $43 million to help support local and nationwide charities. More than 114,000 state employees are eligible to participate by designating the charity of their choice from an approved list of over 1,300 nonprofit organizations. Last fall, over $1.39 million was pledged across the state.
The State Charitable Contributions Program was established in 1982 by the Georgia General Assembly and the awards recognize the significant achievements of participating agencies. Sid Johnson, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Administrative Services, hosted this year's awards ceremony in Atlanta. Frank W. Berry, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, was keynote speaker.

Commissioner's Awards (runners up for the Governor's Cups and are determined based on the same criteria) -
1-100 employees: Georgia Employees Retirement System; State Road and Tollway Authority; Stone Mountain Memorial Association.
101-500 employees: Department of Administrative Services; Georgia Technology Authority; Georgia World Congress Center Authority; State Accounting Office; Department of Community Affairs; Department of Law.
501-1000 employees: Department of Education; Middle Georgia State College.
1001 to 9000 employees: Georgia College and State University; Department of Revenue.
