Middle Georgia State College's School of Information Technology and two universities in Poland will work together on research and also exchange students and faculty, thanks to new collaborative agreements.

The agreements were signed recently by Middle Georgia State President Dr. Christopher Blake and Dr. Alojzy Szymanski, rector (president) of Warsaw University of Life Sciences - SGGW, and Dr. Leszek Zabinski, rector of the University of Economics in Katowice. Dr. Alex Koohang, dean of the School of IT, visited both institutions in late June/early July to discuss the partnerships.

As early as spring 2015, some students from the two universities in Poland could be studying on site at Middle Georgia State and vice versa. The first project resulting from the collaborative agreements will be the participation of all three institutions (and others) in an online global symposium on information technology and knowledge management. The School of IT is hosting the September 26 symposium, which will include on-site speakers of international renown in the IT field.

Koohang said there are students at both institutions in Poland planning to enroll in Middle Georgia State's online certificate program in IT to enhance their bachelor's degree studies in business or other fields.

Middle Georgia State, through the School of IT, now has formal collaborative agreements with five international universities - two in Poland, two in South Korea and one in Serbia.

"The School of Information Technology is happy to engage in these new international activities," Koohang said. "We place a premium on international collaborative research and exchange of students."
