Middle Georgia State College is participating this week in the University System of Georgia’s “SPIRIT of USG Week,” which is being conducted during International Fraud Awareness Week.

The college will be hosting a presentation on Wednesday, Nov. 19, that will detail ways individuals can avoid being a victim of identity theft. MGA also is distributing information this week via an internal staff/faculty communications channel. The materials will be about fostering a culture of ethics, standards of excellence and fraud awareness.

“We are proud to join millions of others in focusing on establishing a workplace that includes the highest levels of ethics, which in turn can prevent the incidents of fraud that can be so harmful to each of us personally as well as the institution as a whole,” said Diana Hall, the college’s executive director of human resources.

“With our focus on greatness -- in service, in educating students, and in every interaction across our campuses -- this week’s focus couldn’t come at a better time,” she said.

The presentation on Wednesday will be held at 1 p.m. in the Professional Sciences Center on the Macon Campus, Room 239. The presentation is open to the public.

“Dedicating a week to bringing awareness to the USG’s culture of recognizing the hard work of all employees, and promoting shared values of integrity, excellence, accountability and responsibility while preventing fraud prevention will help reaffirm our commitment to good stewardship,” said John Fuchko, University System of Georgia chief audit officer and associate vice chancellor for internal audit. “USG faculty and staff have an ethical responsibility to practice sound financial decision making.”

The theme “SPIRT of USG” (Stewardship, Prevention, Integrity, Responsibility, Inspiration, and Trust) guides the activities planned throughout the week and educational materials have been developed to emphasize the week’s primary focus to create greater awareness at each of the USG’s 31 institutions.
