Hometown & Residence: Jeffersonville.
Family: Grandmother, Lorene Durham; mother, Doris Butler; sisters, Teresa Johnson, Shawanda Durham and Sherese Mays. “My family is my main source of motivation to strive for success.”
Current Employment: “I am a full-time student and a student worker for the English department.”
Degree Objective: Bachelor of arts in English.
Class Rank: Senior.
Primary Campus: Macon.
Activities: Member of ARS, English Studies Organization, National Society of Leadership and Success and Student Media Advisory Board.
Career Goals: “I plan to teach English to non-English speakers in China and while doing so I will have the privilege of immersing myself in their culture. After I teach for a while, I plan to go to grad school for creative writing.”
He chose Middle Georgia State College because … “It is affordable and close to home.”
The one thing that surprised him about Middle Georgia State was … “The prestigious quality of education for such a low price. I think I speak for everyone when I say, ‘You Can’t Beat That!’”
His favorite professor is … “I have several favorite professors, and they are all located in the English department: Dr. Thomas Harrison (World Lit I, Chaucer, Advanced Grammar, and presently History of the English Language), Dr. Derrilyn Morrison (African-American Lit II, World Lit II, Upper-level African American Lit, and Non-Western Literature), Dr. Nancy Bunker (Shakespeare and presently English Renaissance Drama), Dr. Loretta Clayton (Brit Lit II, Modern Drama, and 20th Century British Poetry and Prose), and Dr. Debra Matthews (mentor to me and composition studies). These professors have exhibited enthusiasm, finesse and passion in their teaching, and that has made all the difference in my undergrad career.”
His favorite place to study is… “Practically anywhere that is quiet.”
One thing people don’t know about him is … “I can sing.”
His friends make fun of him because … “I am highly idealistic in my thinking; I tend to expect the best possible outcome of every challenge and situation presented to me.”
The one person he’d most like to meet is … “My great grandmother, Annie Durham, who was long deceased prior to my birth. I often hear stories of her by my mother and grandmother, and, based on those stories, she sounds like would have been a strong-willed and hilarious person to get to know.”
Five years from now he sees himself … “Somewhere in the United States involved in news or radio.”
