Middle Georgia State College would become a state university if the Board of Regents approves the school’s bid this week.

If approved, the college’s new name would be Middle Georgia State University, effective July 1.

The regents meet in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Macon State and Middle Georgia colleges merged in January 2013, and the Board of Regents suggested soon afterward that the college could become a university within the next three years.
