Hometown: Birmingham, Ala.
Residence: Cochran.
High School: “I graduated from P.D Jackson-Olin High School. I played basketball and football throughout my high school years.”
Family: Parents, Willie & Katrina Standfield; brothers, Terrace & Ryan Standfield; grandparents, J.T & Margaret Hutton.
Degree Objective: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing.
Class Rank: Senior.
Activities: Volunteer in the “Shoot Hoops, Not Drugs” program to motivate kids to make good life decisions.
Career Goals: “My career goal is to play professional basketball. It has been my dream since I was a child. My backup plan is to work in marketing. I would like to follow in my Uncle Fredrick’s footsteps. He is a CFO for a marketing firm and could teach me a lot.”
He chose Middle Georgia State University because … “I strongly believe God had a purpose for me here. When I first came to visit the Cochran Campus, I knew it was where I belong. I knew Middle Georgia State University would give me the best opportunity in life to become successful. I also knew that I could bring a big change to the basketball program as well. My family played a big part of me choosing Middle Georgia State University to further my college education. I can remember talking to my mother and she said to me, ‘Kieston I know you will do great things here and achieve.’”
The greatest thing he discovered about Middle Georgia State was … “The school is so laid back. The atmosphere at Middle Georgia State is so peaceful and helps me stay focused. I’ve been able to put a lot of focus into school and basketball. I’ve really enjoyed my time here. I’ve accomplished so much here at Middle Georgia State and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
His greatest academic experience so far is … “Being able to keep moving forward with my education. Some people are not able to further their education because of hard times. I’ve came across some difficult times trying to balance my academic responsibilities with basketball but God gave me the strength to overcome every obstacle I’ve faced.”
To him, “greatness” means … “Greatness is within yourself. No matter what other people might say about you or think of you, your greatness is within yourself. When you put in the hard work and dedicate yourself to whatever you do people will see the greatness in you. It’s achieving the goals you’ve set for yourself.”
One thing people don’t know about him is … “I’m a big family man. I love being around my family because I’ve learn so much from my uncles, aunties, older cousins and my grandparents. Another thing people may not know about me is that I’m a very caring person.”
In five years … “I see myself playing professional basketball for the NBA or in a European league. I want to be involved in helping people in need, such as the homeless, and taking care of my family and friends. Lastly, I see myself being married to the girl of dreams and raising children, teaching them everything my grandparents and parents have taught me.”
