At age 17, MGA dual enrollment student Eliza Usher is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, president of the Warner Robins Campus Student Activities Board, and busy applying for an internship with the FBI.

Full Name: Eliza Love Usher.

Age: 17.

Hometown and Residence: Warner Robins.

High School: "I have been homeschooled since the third grade. I am currently a high school junior and a participant in Middle Georgia State University’s dual enrollment program."

Family: Mother, Shay Usher.

Employment: Student assistant on the Warner Robins Campus.

Degree Objective: Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Accounting.

Class Rank: Sophomore.

Primary Campus: Warner Robins.

Activities: “I joined the Campus Activities Board on the Warner Robins Campus during my first semester at Middle Georgia State University and am currently serving as the president. I was recently invited to join Middle Georgia State’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success (Sigma Alpha Pi) and am now an inducted member.”

Career Goals: “I would like to become a forensic accountant. I have always had an interest in investigative research and thoroughly enjoy math. I feel as though this profession will enable me to combine two of my interests into a very fulfilling career.”

She chose Middle Georgia State University because … “I wanted to be part of the dual enrollment program. After researching my options for dual enrollment, I found Middle Georgia State University to be the most academically challenging in this area.”

The greatest thing she discovered about Middle Georgia State was … “Honestly, the fun I had hanging out in the Student Lounge with my friends and playing games, as well as attending the events and trips hosted by the Office of Student Life. On a more serious note, during my first semester, I was fortunate to have a group of professors who were very helpful in making my transition into college much easier by showing that they genuinely care and are concerned with making sure we students succeed.”

Her greatest academic experience as a Middle Georgia State student has been … “Near the end of my first semester, my English composition professor nominated me for the Honors Program. As a dual enrollment student, who was actually just a sophomore in high school, this gave me a great sense of accomplishment. I was very touched by this nomination, especially after coming from the homeschool environment. I had always wondered if, and how, I would succeed in a true classroom setting and this gave me the realization that I could.”

To her, “greatness” means … “Not necessarily being perfect or above average at something but having the will to never give up on your dreams and always giving your personal best.”

In five years … “What I see myself doing professionally in the first five years after I graduate is to have obtained my CPA license as well as my master’s degree. I am very interested in the possibility of working for the FBI as a forensic accountant. In fact, I am currently in the process of applying to their undergraduate internship program for the summer of 2020.”
