Jonathan Hubbard, an MGA criminal justice major, is preparing for a career in law enforcement, beginning with becoming a sheriff’s deputy and eventually reaching his ultimate goal of joining the U.S. Secret Service.

Full Name: Jonathan Andrew Hubbard.

Age: 24.

Hometown & Residence: Macon.  

High School: Mount de Sales Academy. “I played varsity football and soccer for three years and was the captain of the soccer team my senior year. I was also a part of the art club for two years.”  

Family: Mother, Deadra Roberts; father, Lt. Anthony Hubbard.

Employment: “I am a full-time student and work part-time with the Department of Juvenile Justice. I have been with the agency for four years.”

Degree Objective: Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.

Class Rank: Senior.

Primary Campuses: Macon and Online.

Career Goals: “Once I receive my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice I plan on joining my father to work with him at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. I hope to help change the public’s view of young officers. Over the long term, my dream career is to join the United States Secret Service. This has been my dream ever since I was a little boy. Watching my dad get up every morning, putting on the uniform, and hopping in the patrol cruiser excited me every single time, especially when he would take me to roll call in the morning before school. Seeing all the other men and women who took the oath to protect and serve our community made me always want a career in law enforcement. They always told me to do more and be more and that I can accomplish anything.”
 and everything that I could think of.”

He chose Middle Georgia State University because … “It was close to home and it had everything I needed to challenge me. The criminal justice program has given me the tools I need to be able to succeed. The professors care and actually take the time to get to know you. The University offers more of a family feeling than some other schools.”

The greatest thing he discovered about Middle Georgia State was … “How welcoming the school is. I have made many new friends and learned so much – and not just from the classes themselves.”  

His greatest academic experience as a Middle Georgia State student has been … “I have had my struggles academically, but once I became an MGA Knight I truly found who I was and began to achieve more than I thought I could. My greatest academic experience is making the dean’s and president’s lists, and now having this opportunity to tell my story.”  

To him, “greatness” means … “Greatness isn’t just what you accomplish, it’s a feeling. I say this because you can accomplish so much and be the best at whatever you do but, in the end, you need to feel a sense of accomplishment. True greatness is knowing when you have given your all. True greatness is knowing when to listen. When we take a step back and listen, we begin to hear and understand the viewpoints of others.”

In five years … “I see myself continuing to follow my dream of joining the United States Secret Service. Until then, I will be giving it my all working for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, moving up through the ranks, and learning all that I can to better serve my community and protect those who can’t protect themselves.”
