Student Insurance

We are pleased to announce the annual statement premiums for our Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) with United Healthcare for the upcoming 2019-2020 academic year.

Every year, the University System of Georgia works to obtain the most competitive rates and most valuable benefits for this plan.  In addition, this year, a Student Health Insurance Advisory Committee was formed which included student, faculty, and staff representatives.  This committee met to make recommendations regarding the plan premiums and benefits this year and will continue to make recommendations in future years to review.

In summary, for the 2019-2020 academic year:

  • Student premiums are increasing 10.4% or $252 per year.
  • Dependent coverage is priced at a 10% premium diferential compared to student premiums.
  • Plan benefits are remaining the same.

Annual premiums can be found here, with semester rates and additional plan details noted below.

STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE (Eastman Campus)

Effective Spring Semester 2019, student accident insurance will be offered to aviation students on an optional basis. This same coverage is also available to other students, on the same optional basis. Students who are interested in enrolling in the accident coverage should contact Ron Ardelean at or visit the Risk Management page for "Student Injury Only Insurance".

STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE

The University System of Georgia requires that some students have health insurance coverage. The Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) was developed to provide quality health insurance to students in mandatory categories at the lowest possible costs.

If you are required to have mandatory insurance coverage, you will be notified via your student email once you are registered for classes. Approximately 2 business days after you are registered, your information will be in the United Healthcare Student Resources database. You can take action through the United Healthcare Student Resources website during the enrollment period to request a waiver or accept the UHC coverage plan. You must do this in order to remain enrolled in programS that requires mandatory insurance coverage.
