JOB SUMMARY

This position provides manual labor in the Facilities Department on a temporary basis. 

 

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Moves boxes, furniture and other equipment as directed by supervisor.
  • Cleans dorm rooms, operating vacuum cleaners and utilizing cleaning equipment and chemicals.
  • Performs minor and general maintenance tasks, such as patching holes in walls, painting, changing light bulbs and filters, etc.
  • Other Facilities-related duties that may be assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures.
  • Skill in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of hand and power tools.

 

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The supervisor assigns work in terms of very specific to general instructions. The supervisor works with the crew directly to check completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

 

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of general facilities duties that will be performed under direct supervision.
  • The purpose of this position is to participate in the maintenance of university facilities. Success in this position results in the provision of well maintained, safe and attractive facilities for all college operations.

 

CONTACTS

  • Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university employees, contractors, vendors, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to receive instruction, provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse and outdoors, occasionally in hot or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

 

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Employee must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background check.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
