Retired Basketball Coach Inducted Into Hometown Hall of Fame

Rogers, who was inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998, and was named as the Region 17 NJCAA Director of the Year in 1981, took his 1978 and 1980 teams at Middle Georgia College to region championships that earned them the rights to play in the NJCAA National Tournament. In 1993, he was selected to coach the Georgia Junior College All-Star Team.
He served from 1968 to 2000 as an associate professor of math at Middle Georgia College, and received the Georgia Coach of the Year seven times during his tenure. He was the head basketball coach from 1968-1993, and the athletic director from 1968-1995. In 1999, the Board of Regents honored Rogers with the role of Associate Professor Emeritus of Math and Physical Education.
"Middle Georgia College was the best junior college in the state, and probably in the nation ... and there were a lot of good people involved in what I did," he said.
