| Teaching and Research Interests: | TEACHING: My teaching philosophy and techniques focus on helping the student become a lifelong learner. For this purpose, I promote good study habits and skills in my classes, especially in lower division courses. In the major field and upper division courses I emphasize writing skills and proofs of mathematical concepts. I want my students to know why a theorem is true and how to convey their ideas logically, rather than memorizing formulas or simply writing a cloud of equations on a page. Like all of my colleagues at Middle Georgia State University, I have a keen eye on student success. Giving students grace with deadlines and adding weight to grades earned after a “productive struggle” are baked into my syllabi. RESEARCH INTERESTS: Knot Theory and low dimensional topology; Scholarship of teaching and learning |
