Honors student Betsy Sue Fitts is focused on a music performance and teaching career.

Full Name: Betsy Sue Fitts.

Age: 23.

Hometown & Residence: Byron.

High School: "My high school actually closed the year I graduated, but I was involved with softball,
volleyball, and basketball teams as well as student council, yearbook staff, chorus, drama, and fine arts competitions."

Family:
"My parents, two younger sisters, Marilynne and Emily, and my sweet little cairnoodle rescue puppy named Piper."

Current Employment: "I'm a full-time student, but work part-time substitute teaching and babysitting two adorable little girls."

Degree Objective: "I'm double majoring, pursuing B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies and an A.A. in Music with a voice emphasis."

Class Rank: Sophomore.

Activities: "I'm a member of the Honors Program and the Middle Georgia State College Chamber Singers."

Career Goals: "I'm exploring several opportunities right now including vocal performance, teaching music, and music therapy, but I have also always had a love for nursing. I'd love to do them all! Right now I'm focusing on performance and teaching."

She chose Middle Georgia State College because... "I actually transferred back home from an out-of-state college for medical reasons. MGSC was close to home and convenient. I really didn't know much about the school when I applied."

The one thing that surprised her about Middle Georgia State was … "The professors! I had no idea that they would be so kind and really radiate with a love for the students and the subjects they teach. They really want us to succeed!"

Her favorite professor is … "I honestly cannot pick one. Dr. Charla Baker and Dr. Christine Rigsby helped me so much with Math Modeling and Anatomy&Physiology, two classes in which I struggled, both inside and outside of class. Dr. Benita Muth, Mr. James Sisson, and Dr. Sharon Colley have helped me rekindle a love of literature - something I had lost somewhere between elementary school and college. Mrs. Sydney Chalfa introduced us to TED talks and encouraged us to reach for greatness in her Public Speaking class. Mrs. Rebecca Lanning and Mr. Terry Cantwell have been incredible in the music program. They help and encourage us to do well in more than just classes. I've learned many life lessons through the program as well. I'm so grateful for them all!"

Her favorite place to study is … "In my room with classical Pandora playing almost inaudibly. If it's any louder I end up getting distracted listening to the music instead!"

One thing people don’t know about her is … "I travel to Peachtree City every Friday to have voice lessons with Lisa Kelly. It was a dream of mine throughout jr high/highschool and it finally happened last year!"

The one person she'd most like to meet is ... "Walt Disney and Dr. Seuss! I would love to sit down to lunch together and just listen. Alison Krauss is a close second."

Five years from now she sees herself ... "Either here teaching in a music academy or living in Peachtree City pursuing performance and grad school (did I really just say grad school?!)"
