Family: “I have a blended family, which includes my fiancé, Kerry Glover, and his kids (Gavin, 8, Gabrianna 6, and Gentzen, 4) along with my daughter, Madison, 7, and son Mason, 5. We also have a 2-year-old white English Bulldog, Blue Ivory Georgia (B.I.G).”
Employment: “I am a full-time student, but also a VA-student worker for Office of Student Life.”
Degree Objective: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Class Rank: Junior.
Primary Campuses: Macon and Warner Robins.
Activities: Campus Activity Board member (Community Service chair) for MGA’s Student Life Program. “The services provided through the program are diverse and fun. I really enjoy how it caters to all students and encourages students to enjoy life outside the classroom. It’s a refreshing stress reliever.”
Career Goals: “I am used to a fast pace and being able to multitask under pressure. I was involved in medical field during my military career, so I figured why not do the next best thing and become a nurse? I hope to become a flight nurse or an ER nurse.”
She chose Middle Georgia State University because … "I recently retired from the U.S. Army as a firefighter and moved here from Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. I relocated to Kathleen because my fiancé got stationed in Centerville and is currently a detailed U.S. Army recruiter. When I researched schools in the area I choose MGA because of the nursing program and the smaller campus feel. I felt a smaller campus would help me ease into my new life as a civilian and would be less of a transitional shock to my system.”
The greatest thing she discovered about Middle Georgia State was … “All the assistance that is here to help set a student to succeed. I liked that faculty and staff MGA care so much. I appreciate all the different academic tutoring services that are available. Being a non-traditional student, I needed the extra help in Statistics and I appreciated Megan Salter for all of her patience and willingness to go above and beyond to help me. Until that point, I had not taken a math class in 10 years!”
Her greatest academic experience as a Middle Georgia State student has been … “Besides passing Anatomy and Physiology (whew!), just being a ‘college kid,’ even if I am a non-traditional student. I have an associate’s degree that I earned while in the Army attending night classes. But I really like being a ‘real’ student and taking classes during the day. I like being able to blend in.”
To her, ‘greatness’ means … “Creating your own legacy. No one else controls it or paves it out for you. Greatness is always in you, but how you nurture it determines how big or small it becomes.”
One thing people don’t know about her is … “I love Pinterest and DYI projects, even though I am not very crafty or artsy. But I attempt them anyway.”
In five years … “I’d like to pay it forward and help veterans. I see myself working in the health profession. I believe I would be able to relate more to veterans and their family members so I would like to either assist wounded warriors in some aspect with rehabilitation and health assistance or be a nurse at VA hospital.”
