MGA Curriculum Approval Calendar - 2022-2023
Curriculum Approval Guidelines
It is the expectation that degree or certificate program requirements will change no more often than once every four years. Course changes that are significant enough to warrant senate action are expected to be reviewed no more frequently than every four years.
Changes to the structure of the core curriculum should happen less frequently, with the exception of the addition of new courses which will be reviewed when submitted.
Alternatively, changes within a course or set of courses (which should be driven by assessment data) should be implemented each semester. This includes courses in the core curriculum and within majors. These changes include improvements in pedagogical approach, required student work or exams, or modifying instructional mode and style to improve student outcomes. Faculty who teach in a program (including the core) should meet regularly to review assessment data and assure improvements in course-level instruction are being implemented consistently across all sections. These course-level improvements should be documented in the institution's assessment system each July (which is MGA's assessment month).
Program changes cannot be implemented in the semester following approval. In general, proposals must be approved by December of an academic year for implementation in the fall of the following academic year.
It is anticipated that most shared governance time will be expended on new degree program proposals and reviewing the success of recently approved degree programs.
