Middle Georgia State University Juried Student Art Competition Call for Submissions

The Peacock Gallery is calling for entry of artwork from Middle Georgia State University students to the 12th Annual Middle Georgia State University Juried Student Art Exhibition.

For the Cochran & Macon Campuses, entries will be accepted between Fri., March 1st - Fri., March 15th, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Please send your virtual entries to Professor Agnew at .

Artworks to be submitted for competition must have completed submission information for each work included in the email. Please copy, paste, and fill out the entry information from the Submission Form for each artwork submitted and include it in the email. Alternatively, you can submit digital images of your work HERE.

Prizes and Reception*

Announcement of winners will be made on Thursday, April 11th on the Cochran Campus in the Russell Hall Lobby and Monday, April 15th on the Macon Campus in the Arts Complex Lobby as part of the Arts Festival. Winners will be listed later on the Peacock Gallery Facebook page.

**All award winners’ artwork(s) may be held over for up to a year for showing on campus. This should be considered an honor.

Entry Requirements*‡
Any person who has been enrolled as a full or part-time student at Middle Georgia State University during the 2023-2024 academic year is eligible to submit artwork that was created after January 1, 2023 that fits into one of the following categories. Works submitted must be original. No master copies, reproductions, or derivatives of another’s artwork, including photographs, in any capacity, may be submitted. No performance art will be accepted. Any artwork created by individuals during their high school tenure is in ineligible for submission.

Types of artworks accepted are:
Drawing   Painting   Printmaking   Photography   Digital Art   Sculpture   Ceramics   Mixed Media   Installation   Environmental++   Pottery++ 

++Up to 3 entries per student may be submitted, but only 2, 2-Dimensional or 3-Dimensional artworks may be submitted per student***

*Diptychs, Triptychs, Polyptychs, or other types of multi-part artworks and installations may be submitted but may not exceed to the maximum size for a single artwork, as listed below, when displayed.

**Documented temporary installation and environmental artworks must be submitted in the form of a looping timed PowerPoint (.ppt or .pptx ONLY) document or video (.avi, .mp4, or .mkv ONLY). Submissions of this nature must be provided in the form of a flash drive attached to a submission sheet.

Artworks may not exceed the following specifications:
A maximum of 40” x 40” for 2-D works and a maximum of 4’ x 4’ x 4’ for 3-D works.

Each digital artwork slide submitted should be properly cropped & framed. Each two-dimensional artwork should include one digital file. Each three-dimensional artwork may include up to three digital images, if the sculpture warrants it. All special instructions for viewing must be included with the submission for the artwork it pertains to. Each slide file should not exceed 1024 x 768 pixels & 72 pixels/inch in resolution. Please copy, paste, & fill out the entry information from the Submission Form for each artwork submitted.

SPECIAL NOTE: As a juried exhibition, not all works submitted will be selected for the show. Once the submission period is completed, the judge will select which works will be in exhibition. Students whose works are not selected will not be included in the exhibition. Students whose works are selected will be contacted via e-mail as to which works were selected. Works that are included in the exhibition should be dropped off on the appropriate campus designated location by the deadline or they will not be included in the exhibition.

Drop-Off of Artwork:

On the Cochran Campus, accepted artwork can be dropped off between Mon., March 25th - Fri., March 29th, 2024 in the Art Studio (Russell Hall, Room 315) between 8 am – 5:30 pm Mon. through Thurs. & Fri. no later than 10 am. Place entries on the large table or podium on the left in the classroom.

On the Macon Campus, accepted artwork can be dropped off between Mon., March 25th - Fri., March 29th, 2024 in the Art Studio (Arts Complex 236) between 8 am – 5:30 pm Mon. through Thurs. & Fri. no later than 8:30 am. Place entries on the tables against the wall in the content area under the sign that states “Juried Exhibition Submissions” (behind the desks).

Artworks accepted by the juror and submitted to the exhibition must have a completed submission form attached to each work (preferably the back of 2-D works & the bottom of 3-D works). These can be found in Russell Hall, Room 315 on the large podium and in the Arts Complex room 236 on the info table next to the sink in the content area.

Pick-Up of Artwork:

Artwork selected and displayed in the 11th Annual Middle Georgia State University Juried Student Art Exhibition will be available for pickup on the Macon campus between Monday, April 29th, 2024 and Tuesday, May 7th, 2024 in the Art Studios (Arts Complex 236) between 8:00am and 5:30pm. Artwork from students on the Cochran campus will be delivered by the last weekend in April and will be available for pickup from Monday, April 29th, 2024 through Tuesday, May 7th, 2024 between 8:00am and 5:30pm in the Art Studio (Russell Hall, Room 315).

Artworks not retrieved by 5:30pm, Tuesday, May 7th, 2024 for students on the Cochran campus and Tuesday, May 7th, 2024 for students on the Macon campus will be considered abandoned unless special arrangements have been made, in writing, with one of the art professors. As such, abandoned artworks will become property of the Peacock Gallery. The Peacock Gallery reserves the right to keep, sell, donate or dispose of all or part of any artwork, which becomes property of the gallery.

‡The Peacock Gallery reserves the right to reject artworks from the competition that may be considered to propagate hate against a particular person, race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, or that is deemed by the gallery to be pornographic.

***All students submitting artwork, upon submission of the artwork, agree not to hold Middle Georgia State University and the Peacock Gallery liable for any loss, damage, or theft to any artwork submitted, in-whole or part, to the Annual Middle Georgia State University Juried Student Art Exhibition.
