Biography: For both my bachelor’s and master’s degree, I attended Valdosta State University in my then hometown. My degrees are both in English; for my first degree, I minored in Spanish, and during my master’s program, I mainly focused on British literature. For the last 24 years, I have taught English all over America. My husband was in the Air Force when we first married, so I started out in Georgia and then taught in Montana, New York, Ohio, and North Carolina. Finally, we made it back to Georgia. For most of those years, I taught adjunct courses at small community colleges all the way up to large universities; however, for the last fourteen years, I have taught a variety of English courses at Middle Georgia State University.

When I am not doing the mom thing, I am a total sci-fi geek. My office walls are covered with Sherlock, The Walking Dead, and Doctor Who posters. I adore the Marvel franchise as well, especially The X-Men and The Avengers. Pop Culture IS MY THING, so you will probably hear references to my research on such topics as zombies in popular television and fiction or connections of Loki, the trickster Norse demi-god, to Shakespearean characters. (Did I MENTION I am a total geek?) Also, I am a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. Go PACK Go!

My favorite author, William Butler Yeats, once said, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” That quote now is the underlying philosophy I lean on as an educator.
