Graduate Studies

Welcome to the Office of Graduate Studies. Academic year 2019-2020 marks our third full year of graduate education at Middle Georgia State University. If you are a recent graduate or a mid-career professional, we offer several affordable and convenient options for realizing a new career.

In June 2017, we began our Master of Science in Management (MSM) and our Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). With our new online format and 8-week session classes, the Management degree is particularly suited to working adults, as well as to recent graduates who seek an additional business degree. Please see our Management site for recent changes in its admission standards, which are much more attractive to the average applicant.

We are pleased to report that we enrolled a record number of Management students for Spring 2019, and we have over 130 students enrolled in our signature Master of Science in IT program. Also, please note as a reminder that for both the MSN and the MSIT degrees, we have dropped the requirement for the GRE.

The School of Health Sciences is currently accepting applications for its Fall 2019 MSN cohort, and the MAT program in MGA’s new School of Education and Behavioral Sciences is accepting students for its Summer 2019 cohort. Applicants to nursing should know that the MSN program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), having completed its candidacy in Summer of 2017. Apply now for the MSN as seat are filling quickly!

We are also very excited about our new Graduate Certificate in Technical Writing and Digital Communications. This innovative program was developed by the Department of English, the Department of Media, Culture, and the Arts, and the School of IT. This professional certificate is completely online for a total of 15 credit hours; look for a new social media track in the MSIT degree, which will share courses with the technical writing certificate.

Coming Changes: Besides new graduate degrees we have proposed to the University System of Georgia, the University has also undergone a reorganization of its academic schools and departments. Please know that this will not affect anyone’s program of study; rather, we anticipate that this new academic structure will help students progress more quickly.

Please call Graduate Admissions for questions about deadlines or other admissions matters. 478.929.6865. Let me say on behalf of the Director of Graduate Student Policy & Support Dr. Loretta Clayton and our Admissions Specialist Liz Douglas that we look forward to meeting you.
