Dr. Christopher R.L. Blake is president of Middle Georgia State University (MGA), an institution serving more than 8,400 students on its five physical campuses in the central Georgia region and around the world via the MGA Direct online campus.

Since becoming president in 2014, Blake has guided the University’s growth from a bachelor’s-granting institution to a comprehensive University offering master’s and doctoral degrees in a wide range of disciplines.  In addition to the academic expansion, MGA under Blake’s leadership has enjoyed significant enrollment growth and the development and implementation of strategic plans that have expanded programs and facilities, increased the University’s focus on workforce development, and grown the institution’s community engagement and partnerships.

Prior to his presidency at MGA, Blake was president and professor of education at Mount Mercy University in Iowa. He also has served in numerous administrative and faculty positions at other institutions in the U.S. and the United Kingdom.

Originally from Wimbledon, England, Blake holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theology from the Keble College of Oxford University, a postgraduate certificate in education from Westminster College (Oxford), and a Ph.D. in education from King’s College of the University of London.  He is currently serving on the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges’ Board of Trustees, on the Board of Directors of the American Association of University Administrators, and as a member of the executive committee of the Southern States Athletic Conference.

Blake and his wife, Dr. Melody Blake, live in Macon where he pursues his interest in history, having authored two books on how World War I restructured the 20th century in unimaginable ways.  He is the father to two adult sons, and is an enthusiastic fan of professional football (or “soccer” in the US), supporting Tottenham Hotspur in the UK Premier League.

Middle Georgia State University has existed - under various names - since 1884, and in the 21st century has evolved to a uniquely-focused institution, graduating lifelong learners and preparing students for future careers with programs centered on workforce development.  With campuses in Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman, and Warner Robins, and with robust online programs, MGA is the most affordable public state university in Georgia.  MGA is the home of the only public four-year aviation programs in the state, including a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in flight.
