Biography: Michael C. Franklin, PhD

I have been teaching English courses to students since 1981, when I began my teaching career at Louisiana State University as a graduate student. In those days, large state universities employed students in graduate programs to teach lower-level English classes, especially rhetoric and composition courses. After I completed my Master's Degree in English at LSU, I began my doctoral work in Renaissance Studies at Georgia State University in Atlanta. I studied under the guidance of a renowned Renaissance scholar, Dr. William A. Sessions. My dissertation focused on Sir Francis Bacon's works, especially those that shed light on Bacon's religious thought.

Since 1981, I have taught writing and literature courses at various colleges and universities in Georgia, including Georgia College and State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Wesleyan College, and Middle Georgia State University.

I enjoy teaching writing, and it's especially nice on occasion to teach students in their second and third year of studies in advanced literature courses.

I am currently living in Brasstown, North Carolina. I am married to Bonnie K. Franklin and have two children and three grandchildren.
Teaching and Research Interests: My primary research interests focus on the works of Francis Bacon and Renaissance Studies in general. I also enjoy Medieval literature and modern fantasy literature.
Courses: I am currently teaching American Literature from its earliest beginnings to the Civil War, English 2131.
