Teaching and Learning:
Our experiences and backgrounds shape how we live, learn, and teach. As educators, it is crucial to
recognize the diverse backgrounds of our students and adapt our teaching methods to accommodate
different learning styles: visual (learning by seeing), auditory (learning by hearing), and kinesthetic
(learning by doing). Students often benefit from a combination of these styles but may prefer one.
Additionally, fostering problem-solving and critical thinking skills are essential for student development.
While student achievement will vary, consciously addressing different learning styles is vital for
improving student success, retention, and graduation rates.

Professional Development:

Professional Experience: I have over 30 years of experience in face-to-face and on-line teaching, classroom presentation, distance teaching and learning, developing workshops/curriculum and mentoring students both in the classroom as well as independent study courses. I also have experience with learning styles and career inventories.

My teaching philosophy and pedagogy are grounded in the belief that education is deeply influenced by the unique experiences, life lessons, and backgrounds of educators and students. I recognize that students enter the classroom with diverse perspectives and learning needs, and I am committed to creating instructional approaches and accommodate these differences. Specifically, I emphasize the importance of addressing multiple learning styles-visual, auditory, reading/writing and kinesthetic-understanding that while students may have a dominant preference, they benefit from a combination of approaches.

I also view problem-solving and critical thinking as essential components of the teaching and learning process. By challenging students to apply these skills, I help them develop the capacity to navigate complex issues both inside and outside the classroom. While student achievement naturally varies, I believe that intentional efforts to meet diverse learning needs are central to promoting academic success, increasing retention, and supporting graduation outcomes.
