Our Masters of Education (M.Ed.) with a Literacy Focus degree program offers practicing teachers the opportunity to deepen their knowledge, add new skills, and broaden their vision as teachers and educational leaders. This practical, created-for-teachers master’s degree focuses on 21st-century opportunities, needs, and demands, and endows graduates with a deep and varied set of pedagogical skills in the discipline of literacy learning and instruction for all content areas and grade levels, P-12.

Program features
- Composed of 30 credit hours across 10 courses
- All courses are fully-online
- Flexible course offerings each semester – take as many courses as your professional and personal schedule allow
- Practical instruction for teachers in the field provided by experienced, high-quality educators from the P-12 setting
Includes focused, practical instruction in:
- Evaluating best practices in teaching
- Preparing experienced teachers for full participation in the profession as leaders, researchers, and master practitioners in literacy instruction
- Promoting both teacher autonomy and collaboration through inquiry, reflection, and action.
Application requirements
The M.Ed. with Literacy Focus is a flexible, all-online program that admits candidates every semester. Admission to the M.Ed. program is competitive and granted on a “space available” basis.
To be accepted into the program, candidates must:
- Provide evidence of a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.75 in previous undergraduate program. Please note: candidates who have met all requirements for admission but have a cumulative GPA between 2.5-2.74 may submit a letter of appeal as part of their application; additionally, disciplinary action at any other institution that the student has attended or while in the military may prevent admission.
- Hold or be eligible for a clear renewable, level four (4) Georgia Teacher Certificate.
- Submit a complete graduate program admission packet to the Office of Graduate Studies.
- Provide two professional recommendations.
- Submit official transcripts from all college/universities attended.
