Nearly 700 Set To Graduate At MGA’s Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremonies

Nearly 700 students are candidates for graduation at Middle Georgia State University’s (MGA’s) spring 2024 commencement ceremonies.

Five ceremonies will take place over a two-day period: Wednesday, May 8, and Thursday, May 9. All ceremonies will take place at the Recreation & Wellness Center on MGA’s Macon Campus and livestreamed at mga.edu/live.

Of the graduation candidates, 21 are graduating with their doctorate, while 115 are graduating with master’s degrees or graduate certificates. About 450 will be collecting their bachelor’s degrees. The rest are graduating with associate’s degrees or certificates in career programs.

The ceremony schedule and scheduled speakers are:

Wednesday, May 8

12:30 p.m. - Commencement speaker:  Charles Briscoe, CEO, Houston Healthcare

 3:30 p.m. – Commencement speaker: Lester Miller, Mayor of Macon-Bibb County

Thursday, May 9

9 a.m. - Commencement speaker: Dr. Dan Sims, Bibb County School District Superintendent

School of Education & Behavioral Sciences

   Department of Teacher Education & Social Work

12:30 p.m. – Commencement speaker: Rod McLean, Vice President and General Manager of the Air Mobility & Maritime Missions Line of Business at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company

3:30 p.m. – Commencement speaker: The Honorable Crystal Jones, Chief Judge of Macon-Bibb County Municipal Court

The student speaker at all five ceremonies is Leslie Guevara Rogers, one of three President’s Scholars for the Class of 2024. Originally from Eastman, Rogers is graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in education. Students chosen as President’s Scholars must have outstanding academic records, involvement in campus and/or community service activities, and demonstrate characteristics indicating the promise of  successful futures.
