Cisco Networking Academy (NetAcad) is one of the world's largest and most respected technology education and workforce development programs, serving millions of learners across more than 190 countries. Through this partnership, MGA students will have access to Cisco-developed curriculum, hands-on laboratory experiences, and pathways to globally recognized certifications that are valued by employers across the technology industry.
"This partnership will help to" support the goal of the School of Computing at MGA to produce graduates that possess skills on the leading edge of innovation in the disciplines that they endeavor to learn," said Dr. Shannon Beasley, professor of information technology who will teach Cisco-related courses. "Being able to mix a pedagogical knowledge of information technology with hands-on skills and certification will produce a potent body of knowledge for the graduates within the networking concentration of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. The designation as a Cisco Networking Academy aligns with Middle Georgia State University's commitment to providing career-focused education and preparing graduates to meet the growing workforce demands of Georgia and the nation."
"This partnership strengthens our ability to provide students with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and industry credentials needed to succeed in today's rapidly evolving digital economy," said Dr. Kevin Floyd, interim dean of the School of Computing. "By becoming a Cisco Networking Academy, we are enhancing our students' educational experiences while creating additional pathways to meaningful careers in networking, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, and digital infrastructure."
The Cisco Networking Academy will support students enrolled in programs within MGA's School of Computing, including information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, and applied artificial intelligence. Students will benefit from curriculum that emphasizes real-world applications, hands-on learning, and preparation for professional certifications such as the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), a credential already recognized within MGA's information technology program.
In addition to serving degree-seeking students, the academy will create opportunities for workforce development, continuing education, and community engagement by offering training opportunities for working professionals, military personnel, and individuals seeking to enter or advance within the technology workforce.
As Georgia continues to experience significant growth in technology, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure sectors, MGA's participation in the Cisco Networking Academy further positions the University as a regional leader in computing education and workforce preparation.
