Museum of Technology
Mission
The mission of Middle Georgia State University’s Museum of Technology (MoT) is to preserve important technological artifacts that chronicle digital life and to inspire current and future generations of students, educators and the public by learning lessons from the past.
Vision
MoT will create an environment where education and community work in harmony to provide access to historical resources, the sharing of knowledge gained from the resources, and the inspiration for new ideas and innovations.
About
The MoT started in 2018 with one unused display case procured from the library building on the Macon campus of Middle Georgia State University. Since then, the MoT has grown to include 10 display cases and eight working vintage computers and gaming consoles for our visitors to use. We also house a collection of vintage computer magazines and books from the 1970s and 1980s, along with software in the original packaging. The collection is rotated periodically to keep the displays fresh.
Our future plans are expansion of the available space so that more systems can be put on display at one time. Community engagement will come from student-led “Lunch and Learn” sessions where participants can gain hands-on experience with our artifacts. Knowledge sharing will be delivered by student participation at history conferences, vintage computer fairs, and presentations to local community groups.
