Welcome to the School of Computing at Middle Georgia State University.
As Interim Dean, I am pleased to welcome you to a dynamic academic community dedicated to innovation, discovery, and student success. The School of Computing brings together the disciplines of Information Technology, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics and Statistics to prepare students for meaningful careers and lifelong learning in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Our School offers a diverse portfolio of undergraduate and graduate programs designed to meet the workforce needs of today and tomorrow. Students may pursue degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Biology, Mathematics, and interdisciplinary science programs that provide strong foundations in scientific inquiry and analytical thinking. Whether your interests lie in software development, cybersecurity, data analytics, artificial intelligence, scientific research, or mathematical modeling, our programs combine academic rigor with practical experience to prepare you for success in a rapidly evolving economy.
The School's academic departments include:
Department of Information Technology – Preparing students for careers in cybersecurity, networking, systems administration, cloud computing, data analytics, and emerging technologies through hands-on, industry-focused learning experiences. The department's BS in Information Technology program is accredited by ABET-CAC. The program also includes coursework supported by the Cisco Networking Academy (NetAcad). MGA is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education and a National Center of Digital Forensics Academic Excellence by the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center.
Department of Computer Science – Providing a strong foundation in software development, programming, algorithms, artificial intelligence, data science, and computational problem-solving that equips graduates for careers in technology and advanced study.
Department of Natural Sciences – Offering programs that foster scientific literacy, research skills, and experiential learning in the biological, physical, and environmental sciences.
Department of Mathematics and Statistics – Developing students' quantitative reasoning, analytical thinking, and statistical expertise while preparing them for careers in education, business, government, industry, and graduate study.
Our faculty are committed to providing a rigorous, student-centered educational experience that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application. Through undergraduate research, internships, experiential learning opportunities, industry partnerships, and community engagement, our students gain valuable experience that extends far beyond the classroom.
The interdisciplinary nature of our School creates unique opportunities for collaboration across computing, science, and mathematics. Whether students are developing software solutions, analyzing data, exploring scientific questions, or applying mathematical principles to real-world challenges, they are supported by dedicated faculty mentors who are passionate about teaching, scholarship, and service.
